Last year Astor was fortunate to partner with Portland Backpack to provide food sacks with kid friendly food for the weekends. Unfortunately, Portland Backpack is experiencing the hardship of rising food prices and funding that can't keep up with inflation. As of last April, the program is pausing it's partnership with Astor, with uncertainty around when it will resume. Portland Bacpack has invited PTAs, PTSOs and local communities to step into the role of improving food security and learning outcomes at our schools. One of Astor's parents has generously stepped in to organize this program for our school, to keep supporting our families experiencing food insecurity.
